What is the Widowed or Surviving Civil Partner Grant?
The Widowed or Surviving Civil Partner Grant is a one-time payment made to widows, widowers, or surviving civil partners who have dependent children.
How to qualify for the Widowed or Surviving Partner Grant:
You must be a widow, widower, or surviving civil partner who has one or more dependent children living with them at the time of their spouse or civil partner's death.
The grant also applies to those whose child is born within 10 months of the spouse or civil partner's death.
The dependent child must be up to age 18, normally live in the state, and be living with you. A dependent child can also be aged 18 to 22, provided they are in full-time education at a recognized school or college and normally live in the State.
You must also qualify for one of the following:
which includes an increase in respect of a qualified child.
Rates of Payment:
The grant is a one-time payment of €8,000.
It is paid directly into your account or by cheque, following the decision of the Deciding Officer on one of the above payments
How to Apply
You do not need to complete an application form if you are applying for Widow’s, Widower’s or Surviving Civil Partner’s (Contributory) Pension or One-Parent Family Payment.
You can only apply for this payment by post.
