What is the Daily Expenses Allowance?

The Daily Expenses Allowance is a payment given to those who have applied for International Protection and live in accommodation provided by the International Protection Accommodation Services of the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration, and Youth while their application is being reviewed.

How to qualify for the Daily Expenses Allowance:

To qualify, you need to be:

  • an applicant for International Protectiont
  • who is living in accommodation provided by the International Protection Accommodation Services of the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration, and Youth.
  • A Personal Public Service (PPS) Number is necessary to access supports from the Department of Social Protection. Any local arrangements in place for the allocation of PPS Numbers for residents of your accommodation centre will be communicated to you.

  • €38.80 per week for an adult
  • €29.80 per week for a child

  • This allowance is meant to assist with daily expenses while you are living in accommodation provided by the Department.

    How to Apply:

    You can apply for this allowance by filling in the Daily Expenses Allowance (DEA1) form and bringing it with you to your local Intreo Centre. You can apply through Community Welfare Services. Available in your local Intreo Centre.

    Other Information:

    In some cases, you may be entitled to an Additional Needs Payment (SWA1).

    If you have permission to work you may access the department’s Public Employment Services through your local Intreo Centre.

    If you have permission to work and are in employment, you may qualify for Working Family Payment. This is a weekly tax-free payment available to employees with children.
