What is a Part-Time Education Option?
The Part-Time Education Option (PTEO) is a scheme that allows individuals who are receiving Jobseeker’s Allowance (UP1) or Jobseeker’s Benefit (UP1) to attend a part-time day or evening course of education or training, while still receiving their jobseeker's payments.
This program is designed to help individuals improve their job prospects, but it requires that individuals continue to actively seek and be willing to accept work. If a job offer is received while participating in a course under PTEO, the individual is expected to accept the job offer.
How to Qualify for Part-Time Education Option:
To qualify for the Part-Time Education Option, you must be receiving either Jobseeker's Allowance or Jobseeker's Benefit. There are no age restrictions or minimum periods of unemployment necessary to avail of PTEO.
Note: PTEO is not the same as the Back to Education Allowance, which has different qualifying criteria.
Rates of Payment:
There is no separate rate of payment for the Part-Time Education Option. Instead, individuals will continue to receive their regular Jobseeker’s Allowance or Jobseeker’s Benefit at the usual rate while they are enrolled in part-time education or training.
How to Apply:
Apply through your local Intreo Centre using the Part Time Education Option form.
Note: Before you start a course your local Intreo Centre must approve it.
